In January, eighth graders began formally prepping for the English and reading sections of the ACT. The English section, a review of foundational grammar and writing skills, tests over things such as making subjects and verbs agree, forming properly-structured sentences, organizing a writing, and reducing wordiness in a text. The reading section tests comprehension and analyzation of fiction and nonfiction texts. Practicing for the ACT not only familiarizes students with the format of these tests, but also helps them build the endurance and speed needed to perform to their maximum potential. Because we use released ACT tests to practice, they get real experience with real tests, and they can learn from their mistakes. 8th grade students who earn scores of 18 and higher track their progress on our ACT board in the middle school hallway. Quite a few have already met (or exceeded) the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks of 18 for English and 22 for reading!

Senior Capstone Projects allow students to explore a topic of personal interest through in-depth research. This year, students have chosen a wide range of fascinating topics, including what makes a school shooter, the loss of creativity in adulthood, and how sight and sound influence taste. These projects challenge students to meet high academic expectations, combat procrastination, write substantial research papers, and deliver engaging presentations. Here are a few examples of powerful thesis statements students have developed: The fear of death, rooted in uncertainty, is often explored through psychological impacts and facts, but the hope of overcoming death can only be found through Christ. Abortion is wrong because it violates the sanctity of life, disregards God's commandment against killing, and also denies that life begins at conception. The Zodiac Killer Case is one of the most infamous cases due to its cryptic ciphers, coded messages, and the way he captivated law enforcement and the public for decades. Evidence surrounding the John F. Kennedy assassination, such as the angle of the shot, the makeshift trial, and the secrecy of the government, suggests that it was the work of more than just Lee Harvey Oswald. By examining players' impact, their dominance, and influence on the game, the greatest basketball player of all time (GOAT) can be determined.

Senior Chapel Class of 2025: We heard from our seniors about their time at CCS! They shared about some of their highlight moments which included getting to serve together, Cru Week, and Senior Week! Several of them described their Capstone Projects they completed in English IV. Many of the seniors spoke words of wisdom to our Middle School and High School students. We ended the day with families, coaches, teachers, and staff laying hands on this Senior class and praying for them as they begin a new chapter. We Love our Seniors!

Mrs. Parker’s 4th-grade class finished their natural hazards unit this week. Students created a natural hazards poster and built erupting volcanoes. These projects helped educate students about the science behind natural disasters, their potential impacts on humans and the environment, and ways to mitigate those impacts. Through research, collaboration, and hands-on activities, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills related to real-world issues.

Last week, our hearts overflowed with hope and gratitude. Our Easter Family Chapel reminded us of Jesus’ love and the price He paid for our sins. We are blessed to share this time with our CCP and K4 families!

We always enjoy having our Families with us at Chapel, and today we also invited our Pastors to be with us as well! What a beautiful picture: the school, the family, and the local church all worshiping together! Our student chapel band led us in powerful worship. Several of our students from Kindergarten - 12th grade shared from their heart how their faith has grown since being at CCS, and what they love about their pastors and why. CCS truly appreciates the partnership and investment between our families and pastors in discipling students!

Yesterday, our teacher meeting included a field trip to our local Corner Coffee shop. We showed our appreciation for our teachers by enjoying fellowship and sipping coffee together. Given the busyness of the season, this surprise was our way of expressing our gratitude for all they do for our Crusaders.

The Great Gatsby is a novel about the elusive American dream and the flawed characters who chase after it. The junior class explored its themes through the lens of the Bible, discussing the misguided pursuit of success. To celebrate finishing the novel, we had a party complete with 1920’s music, bubbly grape juice, the Charleston, and Bella Keen’s homemade red velvet cake.

Mrs. Parker's class ended their 4th novel reading on Friday, Charlotte's Web. They celebrated by watching the movie and enjoying the foods mentioned in the book. This provided a visual representation of the story, encouraged critical thinking, and helped them better understand the plot and characters. Students will write a short essay to compare and contrast the novel to the movie.

During our elementary chapel, we embraced a time of writing our prayers to God. We had the chance to express our gratitude for everything He has done and to share our deep love for Him. We also took this opportunity to pray for our school, our homes, and our families, asking God for His guidance and support as we embark on this new year. Each prayer was placed in an envelope, sealed, and will be prayed over multiple times throughout the year. When we receive them back next year, we will be able to see all the incredible ways God has worked in our lives!

Our 4-H Crusaders have been creating heartfelt Valentine's Day cards for local nursing homes. We invite all CCS parents, grandparents, and siblings to join us in this uplifting mission by sharing love and encouragement through your own Valentine’s cards in our community. Please drop off any cards at the front desk, and we will take them to the 4-H office for delivery along with our students' cards.

Our Student Ambassadors had the privilege of serving lunch to the Family Church Primetime Group last week. It’s inspiring to see how this shared meal blessed both our students and the Primetimers. The time spent together was filled with warmth and fellowship. It’s a joy to witness our Student Ambassadors shine!
